Param Sant Mahatma Ramchandra Ji Maharaj - Pujya Sh. Lala Ji

Mahatma Ramchandra ji and Mahatma Raghubar Dayal ji were brothers. Their father, Chaudhary Harbaksh Rai was from Bhogaon i.e. a small town in Dist. Mainpuri (U.P.). Their forefathers established the town and the family had recieved the title 'Chaudhary' from the Emperor Akbar. Chaudhary Harbaksh Rai was Suprintendent in the Municipality of Farukhabad. His living was luxurious in the company of Nawabs and had no restrictions on non-vegetarian foods. But the wife of Chaudhary Sahib was a pious lady. she cooked her food separately and in one way was living seperately too. She used to sing Ramayana couplets daily. Attending Satsang, giving alms, charity and donations were the part and parcel of her life. The beggars never returned empty handed from her house. However the saddest thing in her life was that she had no issues and thus used to be worried most of the time. Once a Faquir (Muslim saint) came to her door and proclaimed a slogan of "Allah-ho-Akbar". The maidservant came out hearing the slogan and enquired with him that what he wanted. The faquir said that he wanted to eat fish. There was no fish in her house as she was a strict vegetarian. So she said to the faquir that there was no fish. The faquir again asked for fish. On hearing this, the house lady (wife of Chaudhary Harbaksh Rai) went to the kitchen of Chaudhary Sahib and enquired from the cook whether he had cooked fish. Fortunately fish had been cooked for some important guests so she took the cooked fish, came back and gave the same to the faquir. After eating the fish, the faquir asked the maid to enquire from the house lady what was her desire ? The maid conveyed that to the house lady. The faquir was told that she had only one problem that she had no progeny. The faquir lifted his stick, dashed it twice against the ground counting one and two and then told the maid servant "go and tell your house lady that she will have two issues" and with these words the faquir left.

Ten months later Mahatma Ramchandraji was born and after two years of that Mahatma Raghubar Dayalji took birth. These events were well celebrated in the house by offering alms and feasts to faquirs. The house bloomed with happiness. The mother started inculcating the teachings of Ramayana to her sons. But it was not acceptable to God and when Mahatma Ramchandra Ji was only nine years old and his younger brother Raghubar Dayalji of seven years, their mother left to heavenly abode. Responsibility of their education came on the shoulders of Chaudhary Harbaksh Rai, who arranged best possible teachers for them. However, it was not acceptable to God once again and when Mahatma Ramchandra ji was in class 9, Chaudhary Sahib also expired, Both the brothers were bereaved of father and mother. The relatives took away their entire property cunningly telling that Chaudhary Sahib owed much debt to them. Both the brothers became helpless. Mahatma Ramchandra ji passed class 10 and attained the age of sixteen years. The district collector who knew his father well gave him a job of nakalnavees (clerk) in the collectorate at a monthly salary of Rs 10/-- only. Somehow Ramchandra ji managed his household and also looked after his brother Raghubar Dayalji. They took a room on rent paying half a rupee per month which was very close to the residence where Maulana Fazal Ahemed Khan Sahib lived. Mahatma Ramchandraji Maharaj used to pay great respect to Maulana Fazal Ahmed Khan Sahib and got his blessings in return. Gradually, he came closer to Maulana Sahib and not only was blessed with the spiritual wealth of Maulana Sahib but was authorised by him to carry out his mission to the world. The permission was granted to him in the very first year of their acquaintance. However, in the presence of his Grurdeo, Lala ji Maharaj refrained from organising Satsang and maintained high order of regards for him. Ramchandraji was in the company of Maulana Sahib for 16 years. Maulana Sahib brought him to light through a disciple who in his Sadhana developed inclination towards women. On the advice of Maulana Sahib, Ramchandra Maharaj after devoting several sittings brought the person back on proper path of God remembrance and motivated him towards the main goal of self realization. With this incidence, Ram Chandra ji Maharaj came in limelight. There are many instances of his life that proved him to be a great saint of the time.
